How to Choose a Pultrusion Mould Manufacturer

Short answer. Choose a pultrusion mould (die) maker by evidence, not by promises: ask for the die design, material and finishing details, sample profiles from similar dies, trial runs before final payment and clear ownership of the tooling. Many buyers source dies from China for cost and speed, but audit the maker as you would anywhere.
Pultruded FRP profiles: square and round tubes, I-beam and angles
A die is built for each profile.
Audit question What good looks like
Experience Dies for profiles like yours (wall thickness, hollow or solid, resin system)
Design review They question your drawing and propose changes that make it easier to pull
Materials and finish Named die steel, hardening and plating, with a polishing standard
Trial Trial runs on their or your line, and samples sent before you pay in full
Documentation Die drawings, material and plating certificates, wear and re-polish guidance
Ownership and IP The die belongs to you; drawings are confidential
After-sales Spare parts, repair and remake lead times; technical support
Communication A named engineer, written change control

Why many buyers source dies from China

  • lower tooling cost for the same die;
  • dies and profile production can come from one supplier, so trials are fast;
  • an established base of pultrusion know-how.

Trade-offs: distance for trials and communication, and the need to define standards and acceptance clearly. Put the acceptance tests (dimensions, surface, mechanical) in the contract. The die design basics are explained in pultrusion die design, and common faults in defects and mould problems.

Guangdong Haikuo designs pultrusion moulds in-house and also produces custom profiles from them, which keeps trials short. See our moulds or send a drawing: what we need to quote.

Contract and acceptance points

  • Milestones: design approval, machining, trial, final approval, delivery, with payments tied to the milestones.
  • Acceptance: state the profile dimensions, surface finish and a sample test (for example flexural or glass content) that the trial must pass.
  • Confidentiality: sign a non-disclosure agreement; drawings and die designs stay yours.
  • Spare parts and rework: agree who repairs a worn die and how fast.
  • Shipping: export packing that protects the polished surface.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a new die take?

It depends on the profile and the maker’s workload; ask for a written schedule with the trial date and what could delay it.

Should I ask for a sample before the die is finished?

Ask for a trial of the finished die and a sample profile before final payment; this is normal practice.
