What to specify
- Post size (width, thickness, height) and burial depth for stability.
- Colour (for example orange for telecom, other colours for other utilities by local convention).
- Sign text, logo and reflective sheeting.
- Top finish and any tag or test point.
- Quantity and packing.
Local rules often set the colour and text for each utility; check them before ordering. For other marker posts see fiberglass stakes and markers.
Placement and care
- Common practice is to place markers at changes of direction, joints, and road, rail or water crossings, and at regular intervals on straight runs; local rules set the spacing and wording.
- Bury the post to the depth that keeps it upright without disturbing the cable; avoid driving it into the line.
- Use bright, durable colours with reflective sheeting where night visibility matters.
- Inspect after storms and mowing or ploughing seasons; replace damaged signs.
- Keep a register of marker positions with the cable records.
Frequently asked questions
Why FRP rather than wood?
FRP does not rot or need treatment and flexes on impact, so markers last longer in the field.
Can I customise the sign?
Yes: text, logo, colours and reflective sheeting can be specified in the order.
